Among the various "Advanced Oxidation Processes" (AOPs) for detoxification
of toxic wastewaters the Photo-Fenton reaction (Fe3+/H2O2/h nu) seems to be
the most promising candidate for large scale application. This work deals
with a comparison between Photo-Fenton and the widely known TiO2/persulfate
system. A model wastewater representative for a proposed pesticide bottle
recycling plant was degraded by both systems and a cost estimation is prese
nted. The Photo-Fenton process is the more efficient concerning degradation
speed as well as total costs.
