Abstract
AC 900001 is a new aryloxypicolinamide herbicide being developed globally b y American Cyanamid Company. It is an inhibitor of phytoene desaturase and is highly selective in wheat and barley. When applied postemergence at 50 g a.i./ha, it controls many important broadleaf weeds such as Galium, Viola and Veronica spp. AC 900001 is an excellent tank mixture partner and is bei ng developed in combination with various herbicides, creating a portfolio o f products that provide broad spectrum weed control and seasonal applicatio n flexibility. AC 900001 has a very favorable toxicological and environment al profile. It is readily degraded to a single inactive degradate in terres trial and aquatic environments and has very little residual soil activity. It is also tightly adsorbed to the soil, posing no ground water risk or rot ational crop restrictions. With these chemical characteristics and its asso ciated high unit activity, AC 900001 will be a major addition to weed contr ol in cereal production.
