Ga. Matthews et Js. Clayton, The potential of low volume herbicide application in developing agriculture, 1999 BRIGHTON CONFERENCE: WEEDS, VOLS 1-3, 1999, pp. 379-384
The removal of weeds by hand is a laborious and time consuming task and a m
ajor constraint to the development of small-scale agriculture in many devel
oping countries. One solution to these problems in West Africa has been the
introduction of low volume spray application of herbicides, particularly w
ith CDA (Controlled Droplet Application) sprayers. The successful introduct
ion of chemical weed control requires farmer training and support. Recent e
xperience in Northern Cameroon has demonstrated how extension services in p
lace for cotton development can be utilised to improve cultivation of both
cash and food crops through the introduction of appropriate application tec
hnologies.
