Jh. Yim, A damping analysis of composite laminates using the closed form expressionfor the basic damping of Poisson's ratio, COMP STRUCT, 46(4), 1999, pp. 405-411
Various methods have been presented to obtain the effective damping of a sy
mmetric laminated composite. In this paper, modified classical lamination t
heory based upon the elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle was util
ized by developing the basic damping of Poisson's ratio for accurately pred
icting the damping of laminated composite beams. The analysis involves an e
xtension of the elastic-viscoelastic approach. Futhermore, Ni and Adams' th
eory was used for verifying the modified classical lamination theory. Six t
ypical laminated composites with [+/-theta](s), [0/theta](s), [0/ +/- theta
/90](s), [90/ +/- theta/0](s), [0/90/ +/- theta](s) and [90/0/ +/- theta](s
), stacking sequences were employed for this study. Numerical results have
shown that damping values were in some difference among prediction methods
over the particular range of fiber orientation. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science L
