Sporadic inclusion body myositis is a severely disabling muscle disease tha
t mainly affects elderly individuals. The typical distribution of muscle we
akness, poor response to immunosuppressive treatment, pathological accumula
tion of various proteins in vacuolated muscle fibres, inflammatory reaction
and mitochondrial changes have all been subjects of recent research that h
as led to better understanding of the pathogenic events that leads to muscl
