K. Lock et L. Durwael, One day activity pattern of the grasshopper species Paratettix meridionalis (Orthoptera : Tetrigidae), ENTOMOL GEN, 24(3), 1999, pp. 177-183
The behavior of Paratettix meridionalis (Rambur 1838) was recorded for one
day in S' Portugal. Activities were positively correlated with temperature
and negatively correlated with relative air humidity. FF spent most of thei
r time eating algae, only interrupted by short excursions. MM walked signif
icantly more, they only paused for short eating periods. This walking appar
ently served to find a mating partner: as soon as they noted a possible par
tner, they approached and tried to copulate without any sign of mating cere
mony. Most copulation efforts failed: only one successful copulation was ob
served which lasted for 11 min.
