In the first part of the paper the author tries to show, that the contempor
ary diffusion of philosophical subjects by contemporary Slovak philosophers
(regarding epistemology) goes back to marxism, which is a legitimate const
itutive part of the continental epistemic tradition. She examines the probl
ematic of so called "standard analysis of knowledge" (beliefs, truth, justi
fication) on the background of the difference between the continental and A
nglo-Saxon epistemological traditions. She presents Gettier's counterexampl
es against the classical definition of knowledge and offers a basic typolog
y of the epistemological theories. She is defending the theory of knowledge
as a normative discipline, which makes the answer to the question "What is
it to know?" possible.
