Integral cross sections (sigma(int)) of the absorption of the ground (
P-2(3/2)) and excited (P-2(1/2)) fine-structure states of atomic iodin
e have been measured for four transitions in the VUV region: P-2(1/2)-
(P-3(2))6d[1](3/2); P-2(3/2)-(P-3(2))5d[0](1/2); P-2(3/2)-(P-3(2))5d[2
](3/2) and P-2(3/2)(P-3(2))5d[2](5/2). The oscillator strengths derive
d for these transitions are: f(1) = 0.047 +/- 0.011, f(2) = 0.0088 +/-
0.0026, f(3) = 0.029 +/- 0.007 and f(4) = 0.053 +/- 0.014, respective
ly.
