The results are given of experimental investigation of electrodes of differ
ent configurations (discrete bracket electrodes protruding into the flow; f
lat continuous electrodes made of graphite and tungsten-copper pseudoalloy)
in the channel of a high-power self-excited pulsed MHD generator with the
working volume V = 0.154 m(3) and the plasma now rate of 125 kg/s, It is de
monstrated that the process of self-excitation is more intense in the case
of bracket electrodes protruding into the flow. In the case of the maximum
parameters of MI-ID interaction, the parameters in channels with discrete b
racket electrodes and flat continuous electrodes, in the vicinity of which
the state of the boundary layers is substantially different, are perturbed
sharply (separated flows emerge) under conditions of virtually the same par
ameters of MHD interaction, this being indicative of the decisive effect of
volume electrodynamic forces on these processes.
