In this work, recursive interpolating wavelet packets with shape parameter
vectors are constructed and the parameter-adaptive decomposition algorithms
are presented, which are based on the subband coding gain. Unlike the prev
ious structure-adaptive one in which every node employs the same pair of fi
lters, the shape parameter vectors of every node are signal-adaptively sele
cted in our approaches, thus an adaptive decomposition with the optimal par
ameter vectors is obtained. Moreover, the approach resolves the design of t
wo-hand interpolating principal component filter banks. The experiment resu
lts show that the presented approaches can markedly improve the coding gain
