Rl. Clark et De. Cox, Experimental demonstration of a band-limited actuator/sensor selection strategy for structural acoustic control, J ACOUST SO, 106(6), 1999, pp. 3407-3414
A band-limited method of selecting actuators and sensors for structural aco
ustic control is reviewed, and experimental results are presented to demons
trate the approach. The selection methodology is based upon the decompositi
on of the Hankel singular values of a system model in terms of individual s
ensor and actuator configurations for lightly damped structures. The techni
que selects sensor and actuator combinations which couple well to structura
l modes that radiate efficiently. However, it rejects sensor and actuator c
ombinations which couple well to modes that are inefficient acoustic radiat
ors or are outside of the desired bandwidth of control. Selecting transduce
r combinations which filter modes outside of the desired bandwidth serves t
o minimize the potential for spillover and instability associated with unmo
deled or poorly modeled dynamics. The approach is computationally efficient
since it is based upon open-loop dynamics and does not require iterative n
onlinear optimization. (C) 1999 Acoustical Society of Amer-ica. [S0001-4966
