Research examining linkages between parental divorce and young adults' inti
mate relationships is critiqued in terms of approach and methodology. An in
tegrative framework, which emphasizes children's agency, family conflict, l
oss and renewal, is advanced as a means of interpreting the existing resear
ch and developing new: projects. Finally, methodological recommendations ar
e offered and a call is issued for researchers to include, or at least ackn
owledge, the role of personal experience that shapes one's research agenda.
