Abstract
We present a survey of unresolved objects in the Hubble Deep Field South. W e find 39 such objects with V-606>27.3. Of these, 29 are candidate main-seq uence stars. Their number counts are consistent with no extended stellar ha lo around the Galaxy, in agreement with analyses of the Hubble Deep Field N orth. We identify 6 objects which have colours consistent with either halo white dwarfs or unresolved star formation regions. We argue that they are m ore likely to be the latter. We find one possible disk white dwarf and one candidate quasar. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B. V. All rights reserved.
