Abstract
Quite a few superdeformed bands in the mass regions of 150 as well as 190, having different trends in the dynamic moments of inertia with increasing a ngular momentum, are studied in a simple version of the particle-rotor mode l. Transition energies, dynamic, and kinematic moments of inertia have been calculated. A reasonably good agreement with the experimental data justifi es the application of this version of the model in the new regime of nuclea r structure. Electromagnetic moments calculated within the same model also agree with the experimental results. The role of high-j intruder orbitals i n the structure of the superdeformed bands in both the regions has been rei nvestigated. [S0556-2813(99)01412-0].
