Density, Vickers' hardness, transformation temperature and thermal expansio
n of xZn0.2xPbO.(100-3x)B2O3 glasses have been investigated as a function o
f composition. Variations of the properties around 50 mol% (ZnOt-PbO) are a
ttributed to nonbridging oxygen ions formed in the borate matrix. Parameter
s are given to calculate the density in the ZnO-PbO-B2O3 glasses Results in
dicate that the fraction of modifier oxide given from a ZnO content is lowe
r than that given from an equal PbO content.
