Sl. Tung et al., UNUSUAL ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHIC FINDINGS IN SUBACUTE SCLEROSING PANENCEPHALITIS - A CASE-REPORT, Brain & development, 19(3), 1997, pp. 222-225
Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a rare infectious centra
l nervous system (CNS) disease with a poor prognosis. We reported on t
he case of an adolescent girl with SSPE and characteristic periodic el
ectroencephalographic (EEG) complexes. Her neurological deficits inclu
ding generalized myoclonic seizures improved after intraventricular in
terferon (IFN) treatment. However, unusual EEG patterns consisting of
bisynchronous occipital spikes preceding periodic complexes developed
in follow-up EEGs. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
