Manganese based conversion treatment

Environmental concerns relating to chromate containing conversion treatment s employed for the protection of aluminium alloys from corrosion have led t o a search for their replacement. In this study, an alternative manganese b ased treatment has been examined. Tts properties have been examined using e lectrochemical, electron microscopical, and spectroscopical techniques. Pro mising results have been. obtained and further research is being carried ou t to provide a better understanding of the mechanism responsible for its go od performance.
