The detailed modeling of the reburning process is in general a rather
demanding task since it requires the description of both chemical reac
tion kinetics and fluid dynamics. In this work a model which couples a
detailed kinetic mechanism to a simplified description of the fluid d
ynamics of the reburning chamber was developed. The model reliability
was assessed by comparing its predictions with several sets of experim
ental data reported in the literature. It was found that detailed kine
tic modeling is essential to attain a satisfactory description of the
process. The obtained results also show that these reacting systems ex
hibit apparent time constants which depend strongly on the fluid dynam
ics of the reactor.
