Abstract
Spt7p is a new global transcription factor in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Gan sheroff et al., 1995). We report here that the activities of high affinity phosphate transport and acid phosphatase in particular were decreased in a spt7 null mutant. Northern blot experiments revealed that transcription of the PHO84 and PHO5 genes was impaired in this mutant; expression of the PHO regulatory genes, PHO4 and PHO2, was normal. Spt7p is thus linked with exp ression of several structural genes of the PHO regulon in yeast. Copyright (C) 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
