Introduction: Carcinoma of the urinary bladder is a typical late complicati
on of exstrophy.
Case report: We report on a 51-year-old woman with bladder exstrophy, who,
after refusing all treatment whatsoever, developed a gigantic carcinoma of
the urothelial plate. Palliative success was achieved by radical cystectomy
with supravesical diversion and covering by myocutaneous flaps.
Conclusion: In cases of an extended carcinoma of bladder exstrophy, a succe
ssful covering is achieved by means of pedicled flaps of musculus rectus ab
dominalis and musculus rectus femoris.
