183 elderly geriatric inpatients consecutively hospitalized have been inclu
ded in a cross-sectional study in order to determine the frequency of anxie
ty, depressive dimensions and their link with somatic pain The sample was d
ivided into two groups according to the cognitive functioning: those with p
reserved cognitive functioning (MMSE>10) presented with less anxiety and de
pression symptoms than those with altered cognitive functioning. We have sh
own a correlation between pain and anxiety and depressive dimensions in the
sub-group of patients with altered cognitive functioning.
