Abstract
Nifedipine therapy 10 mg ED orally, carried out in 14 PIH pregnant subjects on comparison with 10 normal pregnant control clearly indicates as a valua ble therapeutic tool. Platelet serotonin uptake was markedly decreased with reduced serotonin content after 2 weeks, with increased platelet numbers. Clinically it controlled blood pressure, oedema and proteinuria. Calcium le vel was statistically decreased in post-therapy group along with potassium level with unaltered sodium level in blood. This study augmented the benefi cial effects of nifedipine on biochemical and clinical parameters in PIH su bjects.
