Hardware security for software privacy support

The security level in existing workstation and server systems is not suffic ient for most applications in a network environment. The processors only pr ovide basic multitasking support, and any other security enforcement has to be carried out in the software layers. It is shown why stronger hardware s ecurity must be provided by the processor, and how it can be realised to li mit the execution time overhead to 2%. This overhead is only required for t he critical parts of the code that need strong protection.
