In this paper, we discuss the theory of emission by relativistic elect
rons in a two-dimensional (2-D) undulator field. The analysis is based
on the analytical evaluation of the Lienard-Wiechert potential with t
he help of generalized Bessel functions. We also discuss the modificat
ions induced in the brightness by the inclusion of low energy correcti
ons. Some features of the 2-D undulator are presented for a comparison
with the results relevant to the brightness of both conventional and
two-frequency undulators.
