Elaboration of reference values for blood volume determination methods with red blood cell labelling indicator dilution techniques using values from literature
I. Lauermann et al., Elaboration of reference values for blood volume determination methods with red blood cell labelling indicator dilution techniques using values from literature, INFUSIONSTH, 26(6), 1999, pp. 360-366
Objective: Elaboration of reference values for blood volume determination s
uitable for red cell labelling methods. Data Source: Evaluation of blood vo
lume measurements from 6 different studies carried out in patients and heal
thy subjects (117 women, 263 men). Selection Criteria: Age between 20 and 5
0 years, body height 120-200 cm and body weight 40-100 kg. Results: The mea
n blood volume was 3,597 ml, 2.18 l/m(2) or 61.1 ml/kg body weight for wome
n and 4,593 ml, 2.42 l/m(2) or 62.7 ml/kg body weight for men. These values
were much lower than usually documented in literature. Conclusion: Differe
nces to published reference values require the elaboration of reference val
ues for blood volume determination using red cell labels.
