Abstract
Objective: Elaboration of reference values for blood volume determination s uitable for red cell labelling methods. Data Source: Evaluation of blood vo lume measurements from 6 different studies carried out in patients and heal thy subjects (117 women, 263 men). Selection Criteria: Age between 20 and 5 0 years, body height 120-200 cm and body weight 40-100 kg. Results: The mea n blood volume was 3,597 ml, 2.18 l/m(2) or 61.1 ml/kg body weight for wome n and 4,593 ml, 2.42 l/m(2) or 62.7 ml/kg body weight for men. These values were much lower than usually documented in literature. Conclusion: Differe nces to published reference values require the elaboration of reference val ues for blood volume determination using red cell labels.
