The problem of improving the performance of the implementation in VLSI tech
nology of Kalman-based algorithms for signal reconstruction in real time is
discussed. A parallel approach is proposed to develop a systolic architect
ure expressly for this specific application. We show that the autoregressiv
e model of Kalman filtering for signal reconstruction is particularly adapt
ed to parallel processing and is well suited for implementation. Although i
ntended to improve signal reconstruction, other applications where a simila
r autoregressive model of Kalman filtering is required are allowed. The per
formance of the parallel architecture is validated by comparison with Motor
ola's general-purpose DSP56002 digital signal for real-world spectrometric
signal reconstruction. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
