Ds. Park et al., Effect of WC content on sintering, microstructure and properties of Ti(CN)based ceramics with 0-2 mol% WC, J CERAM S J, 107(12), 1999, pp. 1133-1136
Ti(CN) ceramics with 0-2 mol%WC were prepared by sintering in a flowing nit
rogen environment at 1973 and 2073 K for 3.6 ks. Part of the WC particles w
ere dissolved in the liquid, and triggered a faster sintering. As the WC co
ntent increased, the grain size initially increased, and then decreased due
to increasing number of WC particles surviving dissolution. The flexural s
trength was inversely related to the grain size. The hardness of Ti(CN)-2 m
ol%WC sample was increased by a post-sintering heat treatment in an argon e
nvironment.
