The effects of Cr3+ substitution on dielectric, pyroelectric and piezoelect
ric properties of 0.66Pb(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O-3-0.34PbTiO(3) (PMT-PT) ceramics have
been investigated: The calcined and sintered specimens have been character
ized using XRD for phase analysis. The dielectric constant and loss of the
ceramic samples were determined. The pyroelectric coefficient was measured
using the Byer-Roundy method as a function of temperature. Small amounts of
Cr2O3 promoted grain growth of the solid solution system. Dielectric, pyro
electric and piezoelectric properties of the base composition were improved
with addition of small amounts of Cr2O3. The dielectric and pyroelectric p
eak temperatures are continuously shifted to lower temperature with additio
n of small amounts of Cr2O3. The frequency dispersion and the diffuseness o
f phase transition increase as the amount of Cr2O3 in the composition incre
ases.
