By the use of the constructed expansions for the solutions of the p-mo
del plate problems, the boundary layer behavior is analyzed for five k
inds of boundary conditions. The implications of different sets of bou
ndary conditions for the presence of boundary layers of different orde
rs are investigated. The theoretical approximate strengths are obtaine
d and some convergence results are also given. These theoretical resul
ts are verified by numerical means and may provide guidance in finite
element analysis for plate problems. It is found that for the case of
simple support, the boundary layer behavior is different for straight
and curved boundaries.
