G. Raade et M. Erambert, An intergrowth of scandiobabingtonite and cascandite from the Heftetjern granite pegmatite, Norway, N J MINER M, (12), 1999, pp. 545-550
Backscatter images reveal an intergrowth of the two pyroxenoid minerals sca
ndiobabingtonite and cascandite in separate areas exceeding 100 mu m in len
gth. Formation of the two minerals appears to be co-eval. The empirical for
mula of scandiobabingtonite is Ca-1.94(Fe0.742+Mn0.23Mg0.03)(Sigma 1.00)(Sc
0.93Fe0.053+)(Sigma 0.98)Si5.06O14(OH) and that of cascandite is Ca-1.00(Sc
0.81Fe0.182+Mn0.04Mg0.01)(Sigma 1.04)Si3.03O8(OH). Compositions between the
two extremes would seem to indicate areas with numerous chain periodicity
faults.
