Abstract
Using a stability analysis based on the Lyapunov method, we study pulse dro pout in an actively mode-locked fiber laser. The analysis gives a limit on the maximum pulse duration and the minimum laser power that are needed for stable operation without pulse dropout. The stability of pulse trains was s tudied analytically and validated numerically for different pulse shapes. ( C) 2000 Optical Society of America.
