Abstract
We present numerical computations for the flow of granular materials i n hoppers. The algorithm is based on a cellular automaton approach and takes into account various microscopic effects, including ''orientati onal effects''. The formation and the dynamics of density waves, recen tly discovered in physical experiments, is observed and analyzed compu tationally. (C) Elsevier Science Inc., 1997.
