This paper focuses on the stress levels of school administrators in Singapo
re. In comparison with a British normative group of managers the Singapore
sample reported significantly greater pressure at work and consequently, si
gnificantly higher levels of mental and physical ill health. To explore the
extent to which sources of pressure, coping skills, individual differences
and background variables are predictive of job satisfaction, mental and ph
ysical health in the Singapore sample, multiple regression analyses were ca
rried out. Stepwise regression identified sources of pressure and locus of
control as significant predictors of job satisfaction, mental and physical
health. Age group and coping skills were also significant predictors of job
satisfaction.
