Abstract
An important advantage of fluidized beds applied in various chemical a nd physical operations is the high rate of heat transfer between the b ed and the heat transfer surfaces. However, the design of these system s for optimum conditions remains uncertain and essentially empirical. In this study a moder for bed voidage and a model for heat transfer ar e presented which can be used to predict the maximum attainable heat t ransfer coefficient and the corresponding bed voidage of liquid fluidi zed bed systems with good accuracy.
