Abstract
From 1950 to 1980, continuous casting has become the major solidification t echnique in steelshops. This is the result of continued innovation and deve lopments. Although conventional continuous casting remains the key technolo gy, in the recent years near-net-shape casting has taken over in specific a reas, Productivity, quality and cost efficiency remain the driving forces f or further developments.
