Abstract
Water molecules are found in abundance in protein-protein and protein-DNA i nterfaces. Although interface solvent molecules exchange quickly with the b ulk solvent, structural and biochemical data suggest that water-mediated in teractions are as important as direct hydrogen bonds in the stability and s pecificity of recognition.
