Abstract
Ascochalara gabretae, the type of the new monospecific genus, is described and illustrated. The associated anamorph is dose to the dematiaceous hyphom ycete genus Chalara. Ascochalara gabretae is a saprobe on bare decayed wood of Abies alba found in the Czech Republic. On the basis of anatomy of the perithecial wall, asci, paraphyses and ascospores and the Chalara-like anam orph, Ascochalara is placed in the Chaetosphaeriaceae. The relationships of Ascochalara with related tars of the Chaetosphaeriaceae and Lasiosphaeriac eae are discussed.
