Complex periodic and aperiodic dynamics have been reported in a model
of an incompletely macromixed stirred tank reactor. A route to chaos f
ollowing a 1(j) bifurcation (j can be odd or even depending on the spa
ce time and reflux ratios) was identified. We demonstrate that Farey a
rithmetics describe the even-j bifurcation sequence. The firing number
versus reflux ratio staircase exhibits a fractal dimension. No such r
elation exists in the odd-j bifurcation sequence.
