The Institute of Mining Engineering III at the Aachen University of Technol
ogy (Open Cast Mining and Drilling Technology) concentrates its teaching an
d research on national and international raw material extraction in quarrie
s. Studies and diploma work for solving realistic situations are assigned a
nd supervised in close cooperation with the raw materials industry to achie
ve a professionally oriented education. As art example, this article provid
es information on the examination of the mining aspects of limestone extrac
tion for producing cement in Myanmar. A computer-aided representation of th
e deposit is built up from the basic data and their evaluation. Based on a
mass and area balance the mining aspects of a section of the deposit are ex
amined and evaluated taking into account the specified service Iz;fe of the
clinker plant to be supplied.
