Ammonia dimers and trimers are studied in a femtosecond pump probe exp
eriment. The pump laser (6.2 eV) excites the cluster into the (A) over
tilde state which is ionized either by 4.6 eV or by 3.1 eV probe phot
ons. Characteristic differences are explained in terms of a kinetic mo
del involving an internal protonated neutral excited state as an inter
mediate.
