We report the temperature and field dependence of anisotropic magnetoresist
ance (AMR) in fully strained tetragonal thin films of the colossal magnetor
esistance manganite La0.7Ca0.3MnO3. The behavior of the AMR is very differe
nt from that found in conventional metallic alloys. Its magnitude is peaked
near the Curie temperature T-C and becomes small at low temperature. It ha
s two distinct symmetry components: one twofold symmetric about the transpo
rt current direction dominant near T-C, the other fourfold symmetric with s
ymmetry axes of the crystal, appearing at low temperature. (C) 2000 America
