Abstract
Optical spectra of SN 1994W in NGC 4041 revealed the presence of a dense (N -e > 10(8) cm(-3)) circumstellar shell. An observation with the ROSAT High- Resolution Imager detected a source, with a luminosity of similar to 8 x 10 (39) ergs s(-1), coincident with the position of SN 1994W to within 1".4. T he positional coincidence plus the optical evidence for a dense circumstell ar shell support the identification of the X-ray source as SN 1994W.
