Abstract
A quantitative approach in karyotypic analysis of six promising genotypes o f Triticum aestivum L, revealed the followings : (i) The total chromatin le ngth was highest (130.00 mu m) in Ananda and lowest (108.82 mu m) in FM-139 , (ii) all the genotypes differed significantly from their mean (118.99 +/- 3.7 mu m) except FM-32 in respect of the total haploid chromatin length, ( iii) the karyotypic formula is derived as 7L(m) + 6M(m) + (6S(1)(m) + 2S(1) (sm)) in Aghrani, (5L(m) + 2L(sm)) + (3M(m) + 5M(m)) + (3S(1)(m) + 3S(1)(sm )) in Akbar, 5Lm,+ (7M(m) + 3M(sm)) + 5S(1)(m) + 1S(1)(sm)) in Ananda, (9M( m) + 1M(sm)) + (7S(1)(m) + 4S(1)(sm)) in Kanchan, 4L(m) + (6Mm + 3M(sm)) (5S(1)(m) + 2S(1)(sm))+ 1S(2)(m) in FM-32 and (1L(m) + 1L(sm)) + (5Mm + 3M( sm)) + (7S(1)(m) + 3S(1)(sm)) + 1S(2)(m) in FM-139, and (iv) there was no i ndication of aneuploidy in this study. So, the difference in karyotypic com position of these genotypes might be considered to have an important role i n their morpho-developmental diversity.
