Reactions of the dinuclear hydrogensulfido-bridged complexes [Cp*MCl(mu-SH)
(2)MClCp*] (M = Rh, Ir) with CuCl2. 2H(2)O lead to formation of Rh4S7 and I
r3CuS6 clusters [(Cp*Rh)(4)(mu(3)-S-2)(2)(mu(4)-S-3)][CuCl2](2) and [(Cp*Ir
)(3)(mu(3)-S-2)(3)(CuCl2)][CuCl2] through the oxidative S-S bond formation,
the former of which contains a trisulfido ligand of the unprecedented mu(4
)-eta(2):eta(1):eta(1):eta(1) coordination mode.
