I. Konyashin et al., The influence of excited hydrogen species on the surface state of sp(2)-hybridized boron nitride, DIAM RELAT, 8(11), 1999, pp. 2053-2058
The surface of sp(2)-hybridized boron nitride, namely well-crystallized hex
agonal and poorly-crystallized turbostatic boron nitride, after its treatme
nt in a hydrogen plasma was studied with the aid of high-resolution Auger s
pectroscopy. The surface state of both modifications of boron nitride is fo
und to change due to interaction with excited hydrogen species. This intera
ction is thought to lead to termination of pi (dangling) bonds of sp(2)-hyb
ridized boron nitride by hydrogen atoms, which results in transformation of
the sp(2)-hybridized state into the sp(3)-hybridized state on the surface
of boron nitride. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
