Two isomers each of alpha-P4S2SeX2 and alpha-P4SSe2X2 (X=Cl, Br) have been
identified by P-31-NMR spectroscopy in mixtures obtained from thermal react
ion of PX3 and P4S1.4Se1.6. Systematic changes in chemical shifts and coupl
ing constants with electronegativity of the ligand by exocyclic substitutio
n and with alteration of the molecular geometry by the replacement of sulfu
r by selenium are reported.
