Abstract
This paper deals with the problem of selecting optimal preventive maintenan ce policy that maximizes generation for thermal power plants considering pr obability distribution of the failure and repair time of the important powe r plant equipment. It compares the optimal generation figures for three dif ferent maintenance policies and suggests the policy which maximizes the tot al generation. A simulation model is presented considering 14 equipment / c omponents as critical for the availability of the plant. It has practical i mportance so far as maintenance actions of thermal power plants are conside red.
