Abstract
The intramolecular coupling of conjugated enynes with cyclopropylcarbene co mplexes has been investigated. The desired products of the reaction, alpha- alkenylcyclopentenones, were minor products of the reaction. Competing reac tion processes included double bond reduction and allylic C-H activation. I ntramolecular coupling of selenium-containing alkynes and cyclopropylcarben e complexes followed by oxidation/elimination provided a more efficient rou te to a-alkenylcyclopentenones.
