The machining of a thin disk-shaped workpiece is a problem commonly encount
ered in the aeronautics industry. Generally the successful machining of a t
hin disk requires reinforcement by plaster This reduces the productivity an
d increases the production cost. It is recognised that the suitable control
of the cutting force to limit the maximum deflection of the disk within a
certain value for each leading allows the machining to be successfully carr
ied out without any plaster reinforcement. Modelling and computer-simulatio
n of the deflection of a thin disk-shaped workpiece during turning are thus
developed. The results of the simulation are discussed.
