The effect of different iron loadings (0.1%; 1%; 5%; 10%) on a 10% Co/
TiO2 catalyst was studied by a range of surface and bulk characterizat
ion techniques. The combination of techniques (B.E.T.; CO-chemisorptio
n, desorption; DSC; XRD; XPS; TPR; TPD; SEM and Mossbauer Spectroscopy
) revealed that an intimate interaction occurs between the Fe and Co a
toms when compared to the pure metal components. Catalyst preparation
and reduction procedures influenced both the bulk and the surface prop
erties. The characterization studies revealed that the TiO2 systems do
not differ significantly from SiO2 and Al2O3 supported, or alloy syst
ems, reported elsewhere in the literature.
